The v3.2 update is recommended for all Quasar users but will be especially beneficial to those using the Quasar Soft option and to Quasar Engine RPS customers.
What’s New in v3.2
In case you've missed it in our previous communications, here's an overall look at the new benefits gained from this update.
The big winner in the update is Quasar Soft, the optional HTML5 browser-based remote control solution for Quasar XR and SR consoles. With this update, Quasar Soft gains several key features previously available only on the hardware surfaces.
Quasar Soft users will now be able to use Call Control to operate their Telos VX® broadcast telephone systems, Intercom Control to manage a Telos Infinity® intercom system, and will gain 32 user-programmable hot keys in the full monitor section and four user-programmable hot keys on each channel strip to control external devices. Plus, up to two Soft SmartKey modules - each with four groups of six buttons - are now optionally available, providing remote control of SmartKeys on connected hardware surfaces or as virtual modules for standalone Quasar Soft installations. These benefits also extend to Quasar Engine RPS, which uses Quasar Soft to control connected surfaces or to create a standalone mixer with no hardware mixer.
Quasar Soft also offers new “slider”-type faders and dynamic scaling of the browser window, providing an improved interface and user experience with less scrolling, particularly on smaller monitors, tablets, and mobile devices.
Product Strategy Recap
Quasar Soft was designed to provide optional remote operation of the Quasar XR and SR consoles, and, in Quasar Engine RPS, allows the creation of a standalone mixer without the need for a physical console. However, Quasar Soft was missing several important capabilities found on XR and SR hardware surfaces, creating a feature gap between the hardware and software implementations. This software update bridges that gap and provides increased feature parity.
It also introduces a new type of fader behavior and automatic scaling of the UI browser window, features recently added to the Core Soft option in StudioCore. Implementing these features in both products presents a more unified user experience across console product lines.
